Deeper Into the Gardens
Set on pedestals placed between the Japanese Garden’s two bonsai courts are six dark green viewing stones or suiseki, from the Eel River in northern California. Rather than the more widely known Mountain Stones whose shapes evoke their namesake, these are simply classed as Beautiful Stones. Their sensuous shapes invite your gaze and the touch of your hand but they also rewarded me with inner views that revealed another range of landscapes and abstractions, a few of which appear in the slide show below.
